Literacy is one component of School Readiness andFirst 5 Alameda County supports a variety of multi-disciplinary literacy programs throughout Alameda County. Our goal is to enhance the literacy and language development of all children through culturally and linguistically appropriate programming.
Family Support Services Early Literacy Enhancement Project
The Family Support Services Early Literacy Enhancement Project provides ECC home visiting programs with training related to early literacy, culturally and linguistically appropriate children's books and parent education materials.

Alameda County Early Childhood Literacy Network
The Alameda County Early Childhood Literacy Network (ECLN) is a multidisciplinary group of community members working to improve access to high quality literacy experiences for young children and their families in our community. The Network's goals include to:

Provide networking and collaboration opportunities and peer support for community organizations that offer literacy services for young children and families

Disseminate information related to best practices, funding sources and policy making related to early childhood and family literacy

Reach Out and Read (ROR)
Reach Out and Read is a national program that promotes family literacy through pediatric offices. First 5 Alameda County supports ROR programs in Oakland, Hayward, Berkeley, San Leandro, Fremont and Pleasanton.
