Research shows that a child's success in school is contingent upon five key areas of their early development and learning:
- Emotional Well-Being and Social Competence
- Approaches to Learning, Communicative Skills
- Cognition
- General Knowledge Skills
- Health/Physical Development
In order to prepare children for their elementary school experience, the First 5 Alameda County School Readiness Initiative provides support addressing the five key areas and is funded in part by the First 5 California School Readiness Program and First 5 Alameda County.
In partnership with local school districts and community partners, First 5 AC coordinates a variety of school readiness programs for children and families within low-performing school communities. In addition, First 5 AC supports countywide programming designed to meet the needs of all children and families as they prepare for the transition to elementary school.
